Cor Mooij

Cor Mooij, 1946, won the World Press Photo with a series of consecutive images of Roger Wiliamson's fatal F1 accident at Zandvoort in 1973. He was in the right corner, he would later say. Or in the wrong one; de Egmonder would prefer never to be reminded of it again. It became his international breakthrough as a sports photographer. His photographic work has appeared in internationally renowned magazines such as Time Life, People and National Enquierer. Looking back, he prefers to talk about the football 1970s, when the Netherlands broke through globally on the basis of icons such as Van Hanegem and especially Cruijff.

In the early seventies he defeated the great European successes of the Ajax of Cruijff and Michels. He did a photo report of the World Cup finals in Germany and Argentina for De Telegraaf, among others. Until his retirement in 2004, he remained a widely seen photographer in the major sports arenas. Nowadays Cor is mainly active for the Egmonder Courant. He can't resist taking pictures.

The pictures

In the year that Johan Cruijff would have turned 75, images from his great years at Ajax and Orange were chosen. Opposite it are images of the World Cup winners in 1974 and in 1978, the World Cups that Orange could and should have won according to many, but in which it went down both times in the final.

His photographic work has appeared in internationally renowned magazines such as Time Life, People and National Enquierer.
